They’re Here! Plus, a not so quiet brag…

Book 4, Dead Ringer, hard copies are here and also available on Amazon and Books.by

There will be a local launch here in Townsville at Arcane Bookstore Tavern street, Thuringowa, who also are carrying the follow up thriller Daughter Of Anger and the other Beaufort’s Landing Series. Keep an eye out for date announcements.

The other good news? aAs in title above, I’ve received two lovely reviews by email in the last month for Ruth In Pieces…Yes, yes I am bragging…

Life is shattering — available at Amazon and Arcane Books Townsville

I recently came across Ruth In Pieces on Reedsy and was immediately intrigued by its dark, layered suspense and the psychological undertones that echo through Ruth’s journey. The mix of international intrigue, medical mystery, and a detective’s obsession makes it exactly the kind of story readers… crave, ….Ruth In Pieces’ unique appeal, especially with readers who devour tightly woven mysteries with morally complex characters

(Sorry, don’t know why this is so small…)

aannddd….

From the very first lines of Ruth In Pieces, it’s clear this isn’t just a thriller it’s a haunting character study cloaked in quiet menace. Ruth is a fascinating creation: layered, enigmatic, and drifting in the shadow of doubt. As a reader, you’re pulled in by the mystery but as a human, you stay because the truth feels dangerously close to home.

This is the kind of psychological thriller that lingers. It doesn’t just twist and turn it unsettles. It builds an atmosphere where trust feels foreign, and every action is stitched with ambiguity. It’s stories like Ruth In Pieces that deserve to land in the hands of readers who crave this precise blend of suspense, subtle horror, and emotional depth… your book’s global backdrop, atmospheric tension, and deeply human questions about guilt, trust, and hidden truths, Ruth In Pieces has everything it takes to capture loyal thriller readers

Seems my dark side can be appealing, lol…

How is your writing going? I hope you are getting lots of support, you deserve it. I believe in you. You’re amazing you’ve written, are writing a book. That’s amazing! Well done!!

See you soon,

New Perspective on Rewriting — Overcome to Energised

Oops apparently I for got to post this…

Dang that seems like a long headline! But, I want to share with you a new mindset I have decided to develop. Having finished my latest book’s first draft, I’m setting out on the mammoth task of reviewing, revising, and rewriting. Now, it’s not that I absolutely hate this task, it’s just that it has felt tedious, time-consuming and tiresome. I have always felt, well, there that’s finished, brush hands together and get onto the next one. However, I know it will get better after the beta readers, editors etc., but before I send it to them I want it to be the best I can achieve without help. It’s my story, my responsibility.

I have, therefore, given myself a good talking to and am trying to look at my work with new eyes and attitude. If I slow down the narrative long enough for the reader to establish the character in his/her setting, if I make the reader feel the feels, sense the smell, touch the texture, hear the accent/music/forest sounds then they get a much more immersive experience.

I love it when I get lost in the world of whatever book I’m reading (which, at the moment is Boy Swallows Universe – what beautiful writing). Isn’t that what I want for my reader? Aren’t they supposed to say, as they close the book, ‘Man, that was good. I was right there!’

There is a lot of advice, out there in the media-verse, to just get on with relaying the story. don’t use too many adjectives, don’t take to long in the telling, action is everything, move, move, move…

Well, I beg to differ…I say balance all that action with explanation and explication. You can’t ‘show not tell’ without taking time out to trace the feelings, smell, noise, taste sights. Sometimes those things are so overpowering, so amazing, so awe-inspiring that they deserve an adjective or two. They deserve the deep breaths and appreciation.

Let’s stop dissing adjectives and adverbs, but using them wisely build our worlds, however small and seemingly insignificant, into places our readers can fully inhabit.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? How do you go about your re-writes. Do you toss out all those words and start again? Or, like me, go back and build little by little, more truth, strength and realness into what you have already accomplished? After all, I wrote a book! I mean, that’s no small task. Why would I bury it, when it can be re-vitalised, brought back to radiant new life?

Let me know how you’re doing,

Success!

My friends,Percy Rose after a lot of mucking around (Excuse me! That’s with a ‘M’ if you don’t mind.) I have managed to set up a newsletter, and I am pretty chuffed with myself because it was not as easy as you may think. Well, certainly not for me.

Big thanks to author Callie Berkham for helping me navigate these choppy waters. She is an absolute gem and gave readily of her time and expertise. Thanks hon.

I know it’s only a small victory, but hey I’ll take any kudos I can.

Try it! You get a free sampler booklet of my dark short stories and poems,

Death, Danger and Dark Dreams,

Feeling Frustrated!!

Hi, I apologise for the lapse of time since my last post, but I have been wrestling with trying to get paperback prints of my books. I really, really wanted to go local…Look, I know that they can’t quote as low as the bigger printers, but no one I approached would even come down to a viable print-cost for me, the author. I tried to explain: 1. That I didn’t expect the same prices as larger printing firms, but needed something reasonable. 2. That there would be many orders to follow. 3. That there are other authors in Townsville, of whom there are many, who are interested in supporting local industry. 4. That I really, really wanted to support local.

BUT…no one wanted to come to the party! One company had given me a quote some months earlier, so I went to them to explain all the above. The woman agreed to give me a new quote, which duly arrived by email…it was even more than the first!

SO…I thought surely someone in Australia must be able to do better. I sent off for quotes with the above information, to several companies. No quote came near, many didn’t bother answering, or returning calls.

NEXT…I decided I’d probably better go with the international printing company which has printing facilities in Melbourne. Lots of authors in Australia use this company, with apparently no problems. After a number of errors in uploading by me, due in large part to the non-intuitive way of finding one’s way around their pages, the book got the go ahead and I went on to add the info needed. However, my account has been stuck for weeks with the message on it saying ‘revision incomplete’, and I can’t find how to get into wherever that can be fixed. I rang to get help, was told their people were busy and they would ring me back. That was 2 weeks ago.

NOW…I am going to try to start there, with a clean slate. I will remove my book completely and start from dot one…fingers crossed.

IF THAT DOESN’T WORK…I will have to fork out big bucks for overseas printing. Costs are quoted in USD and look very reasonable until you convert and add the inordinately high cost of delivery, which I expect is because of the weights involved.

AAaarrrrgggg!

Er, excuse me…I know this is a long whinge, but I am so frustrated I feel like I’m going nuts, I’m invisible, don’t matter and am bloody useless.

LOL…on the upside, Book 2 of the Beaufort’s Landing Series is almost ready to go up on Amazon. I’m just dickering around about the title. I think I’ve settled on ‘Tidal Secrets’…almost, I think.

I will try to be happier in my next post. If you can help me overcome this printing conundrum, I would appreciate it very much.

Wish me luck, Percy.

I’ve moved out…

I am going to re-publish this as an update and see if it appears on my FB page…here goes…..

Well hellloooo fans,   I have grown up, moved out and landed in my own new home. which is here, where you are, obviously.

It has been a learning curve all over again. Thank god WordPress is relatively easy to negotiate. By that I mean, I still made lots of mistakes and that’s why its taken me so long to write my first post…lol.

Still, I’m up and running now. There are presently three pages One with the collection of short stories and poems...Death, Danger and Dark Dreams.

The second is simply titled Mysteries and presently has Book 1 of the Beaufort’s Landing series…Twin Powers (Psycho or Psychic) earlier known as… Death of a Twin.

The third page is titled Thrillers and though they are not yet published the page will lead you to to my very dark writing…killer diller, psychological thrillers. They are not for the faint-hearted. More about them soon…

Peruse the pages and let me know what you think.  Talk soon,  Percy Rose.

PS Well that didn’t work …this site is supposed to have gone Public, but nothing has happened. I will investigate and hopefully it will happen soon.
